- North Riding - Historically an agricultural region.
- Capital: Northallerton
- Economic centre: Middlesbrough
- East Riding - Historically Yorkshire's maritime region.
- Capital: Beverley
- Economic centre: Kingston-upon-Hull
- West Riding - Historically the industrial region.
